During the month of November, we will learn more about The Rotary Foundation, and how our membership in Rotary contributes to so much good around the world. Today I’ll share with you a brief summary of the history of The Rotary Foundation.
It all started in the year 1917. At the Rotary Convention that year, outgoing President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International.
In 1929, the newly renamed Rotary Foundation made its first gift of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. This organization, created by Rotarian Edgar F. “Daddy” Allen, later grew into the one we know today as Easter Seals…
